I used a 1:1 balun to connect to an inverted V dipole (20m) installed in the attic. The balun itself really gave everything and I was able to achieve an SWR of more than 1.2 at resonance. My radio is only 20w so I don't know how it will perform with more power. The instructions show fairly decently how to use this to make a 1:1, 1:4 or 1:9 balun. I really struggled to scrape the varnish off the wire to make a good solder joint. I ended up taking it to my grinding wheel and twirling it around a bit to clean it up. At this point I abandoned the heat shrink tubing and simply wrapped the wires tightly around the toroid. The other negatives are the red and black connectors, which stripped the threads very easily when I tried to tighten them. Instead I used some mounting bolts and nuts. Overall assembly is a bit tedious, but I'm very happy with the end result.73
