Review on 🎧 Black Sony MDRZX110NC Noise Cancelling Headphones - Enhance Your Listening Experience by Alex Jain

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not nearly the advertised 95% reduction in ambient noise; But not bad for the price!

The attached graphs show the analysis with noise reduction on (left/green box) and off (right/blue box). For this money everything is ok. I'm sure there are other headphones out there for around $34 that perform better, and of course some of them worse. However, the package boasts a "95% reduction in ambient noise", which is not true. Here in my office, where only my computer's fan is making noise, that's not even the point. I would like to say something over 40%. I plotted the results in Audacity using a microphone in a foam-filled box to record differences in ambient noise. I placed 1" holes on the sides of the box where Sony headphone drivers typically find the ear canal. I realize it's rude, but it was enough to test them out. If you need a more accurate test, you are welcome to get a human skull and work it out yourself. The results show that there is a 3dB reduction with noise reduction enabled for sounds below 86Hz (yellow) and a similar reduction at the top end around 3000-3800Hz where a further 3dB reduction is noticeable (red) where they appear to glow is in the mid-range between 1000-2800 Hz, where the reduction in ambient noise is more linear, keeping the noise between 46-55 dB on and 53-62 dB off (orange).

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • There are some nuances
