Designed to scoop how to REALLY scoop

**UPDATE #2*** Ordered a second one for a family member, despite the other's "faults" (see first review below). I had intentions of modifying the blade to remove nicks like we did on mine BUT the manufacturer must have listened to complaints like mine and it now has a smooth leading edge and a much better vane than the first, that we bought. It could be a bit shorter to fit in all corners of various boxes, but that has been improved. My daughter is very happy with it! *UPDATE* from mom. Yes, it was bought by my dad after he broke my usual cheap plastic shovel. He was impressed by its power without understanding its true use and function. It's about an inch too long to be used at any angle in the boxes we have. And the jagged leading edge is TERRIBLE! It breaks up clumps and scratches the surfaces of boxes, making cleaning and disinfecting difficult. In addition, the coating wears off with regular rubbing on the cat boxes. I had the original buyer "Dad" sand down the dots and give it a smooth, slightly beveled leading edge. Now it works better. It's solid, but with the design flaws mentioned above, I can't love it or recommend it unless you plan on modifying the edge as well. At first I scoffed at the non-stick surface like putting it in my dishwasher? doesn't happen. The coating actually makes it easier to knock the contents of the box off the scoop and teeth, it was a nice addition to the design. But seriously, this thing is built like an OshKosh cement mixer, I think I could dig holes and plant trees in the yard if I wanted to. The ONLY thing I see that might need improvement is to suggest a purple pen or maybe UofM colors (GO BLUE), no seriously that's impressive. It certainly eased the retirement of the "good old" plastic shovel that lasted until recently when "Dad" had to clean drawers and it broke. You won't be disappointed. If at some point a plastic grip is the way to go I'll be the first to come back and admit how badly it's been beaten to the point of failure, so far it's very well designed and well made. Thanks, happy scooping! (and "father" wrote this review)
