My 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 had status codes P0171 and P0174 for lean mixture. Most references to this condition point to leaks in the intake (or exhaust) manifold. I used a smoke machine to isolate the most likely sources. First, the smoke came from the exhaust gas recirculation pipe connected to the intake manifold. I replaced the tube and the behavior became more controllable, but we could tell it was still there. I've done a little research and people tend to talk a lot about this intake gasket kit. I decided to order it from Revain (great price, quick delivery) and proceeded to replace the Victor Reinz with about 35,000 miles on it. Of course the location and attachment to the head bolts was different, but after cleaning the mating surfaces and the head bolts that these gaskets should sit on, installation was easy. The pads are MUCH better than the original manufacturers or the Victor Reinz I had before. After gathering all the components, I checked the car. While the LT trim remains high for both rows (13.4-15.1), this is a significant improvement over the 25% fixed LT observed with the previous pads. The car feels more responsive, idles smoother and no longer reports CEL codes. I will continue to look for other less visible sources of vacuum leaks but replacing these gaskets has made a world of difference. Highly recommended!
