I have a steel frame trailer and was trying to find a good circuit for a very short ground wire but the circuit was so bad the light was very dim. I had a good connection to the frame as I had just drilled through the frame, threaded the ground wire through the hole and then used a rivet to attach the wire to the plug and lantern ends. For troubleshooting I took an extra cable and connected the ground cable directly to the headlights and the problem was solved. Even though the floor worked through the frame, it's another connection that needs to be addressed if there are future lighting issues. I definitely recommend using a harness with ground wires that go into the headlights. As mentioned, the connector is a bit oversized and difficult to fit into my existing socket, but I can get it to work with the plastic finish. Finally, the wire that was included was long enough for my 5X9 foot trailer. You may be able to make the pendant a little larger if the wire runs down the middle, but I ran it on one side.
