Review on Monolith THX 365IW Certified Neodymium Shorting by Tara Perez

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The devices I received would never pass THX certification.

Update: Another star dropped - When I received the replacement for the failed left and center ducts, the right duct started failing after just 2 weeks, and as with the previous ones, significant deterioration is observed. Don't buy these speakers - all I've come across (including spares) are from the same initial production run of 300 units. Now I had to replace serial numbers M34367BG1900285, M34367BG1900112 and M34367BG1900105 - and now one of the replacement units (M34367BG1900154) is showing the same error symptoms as the others. So far it's 100% failure within the first 30 days of installation for 4 speakers. . I am convinced that it is either a defective batch of equipment or a fatal problem with the design of the speakers. I have to say that the other TEN Monoprice speakers I bought for this project (2 Monolith Subwoofers and 8 Surround/Atmospheric) were absolutely spotless. This particular THX LCR speaker model is the only one that has issues. If the left and center replacements I just received follow the same path I will report the mono price to THX as the actual manufactured units will never pass their tests. .Revain are great at replacing them when they fail and Monoprice have refunded the ones they bought, but Monoprice needs to take action and fix the issue with these speakers. First review: EQ setting photos to get my set of 3 of these flat speakers says all you need to know. As you can see the left channel is not flattened. That's because the 1" silk dome tweeter only runs at about 25%. The right duct is a brand new replacement for the original right duct that failed completely in less than 60 days. Here's how the graph looks. when it is new. The center channel is corrected to be flat, but you can see that it is significantly different from the new right channel. What does that mean? You would expect a bass improvement as the speakers complete their break-in period, but you shouldn't see as much treble roll-off see let alone the full slump I saw in 2/3 I think the middle is just a matter of time Add to that the design of the magnetic grilles is such that they slide down the front until they expose about half the top of the speaker enclosure. If you want to use grilles, you'll need to come up with a decision to hold their place.Typically with a magnetic grille of a La Loudspeaker's magnets are only needed to hold the grille to the frame where it enters the locked position. With this design, the grid has just over 1/2 inch of freedom of movement to slide in any direction, and since the magnets and friction are the only things holding them in place, a little vibration will cause them to slide right up to the edge slide . The grid is in contact with the magnets. With standard film volume, this takes about 15 minutes. I just took them off because I have black walls in front of my theater. I can try to fake something. is that I was very unlucky and just received a bad batch and over time the replacement will work just fine. hope it works. Finally, unfortunately, Monoprice isn't really a high-end audio company. While they're great value for THX-certified speakers, if you contact them, even if they have Monolith's direct support channel, don't speak to an audio expert. Expect to be a lot better informed than the support reps you speak to. On the plus side, Revain has their backs and will replace them in just about 60 days. If everything ends up great I'll update my review, but for now my advice is to stay away from these particular speakers. One last thing, so far the other MP speakers (alpha and carbon fiber 3-way) I've chosen for the surround and ambience channels are working fine. These "cheap" speakers appear to be much better constructed than the much more expensive so-called THX models. They are very stable and adjust to a flat condition and the magnetic grids are perfect. The 12-inch monolith subwoofers are also phenomenal, so while I don't recommend them, I've had great luck with all of the other MP units in my project.
