The fermentation jars are a good weight. They keep the vegetables below the brine level as intended without any problems. They're just the right size to fit in a wide-mouth mason jar. They do not fit in narrow-necked glasses. If you are using weights on something larger than a 1 liter can, you will need to add a plate or something similar to increase the weight's bearing surface. The weights are well packaged in a sturdy cardboard box and styrofoam wrapper that should last a long time with a little care. The reason I only gave the scale 4 stars is that you have to use your fingers to grab the center pole to remove the weight from the fermentation vessel. When trying to use tongs, I found that to adequately grip the weight to lift it off the surface of the fermented food, the glass surface had to be smooth. If you don't mind using your hands to get at the pickle, you'll find this to be a good buy.
