Reliable gaming camera, nothing special

We bought this camera during a sale and put it away for our 5 year old for Christmas. The case design is excellent. It's small, light, but seems very sturdy. The screen size is reasonable and the buttons are minimal and fairly intuitive. The camera did not come with the required micro SD card. It is listed on the included items list, although other reviews indicate many required their own so I'm not sure if the listing or packaging is a mistake. It's okay, we had one lying around. Allow some loading time in advance if you want to give it as a gift and use it right away. Now for the downside - the picture quality is terrible. I didn't expect the quality from the iPhone, but I thought it would match the quality of digital cameras 20 years ago. The shutter speed isn't fast enough to take a decent photo unless the kid keeps still while pressing the shutter button. Children tend to click and move immediately. Indoor photos turn out incredibly grainy and photos of people outside are overdone. The video actually turns out well, although the microphone seems to be right where it's supposed to be held, which is why we have a lot of loud rubbing noises throughout the video. The selfie mode feels comfortable, but again the results aren't great. The battery lasted about 200 photos before needing to be recharged. All in all, the camera is fun for the kid who wants to take a million photos and doesn't worry too much about the results. I really think it's overpriced for a normal price considering you can buy a decent 16MP point and shoot for less. If you have a child that's about the age where you need to be careful not to toss, drop, or swear at the camera, find a real target and shoot instead.
