Get both Bulldog40 and Bulldog32. The Bulldog40 uses a 40mm/1.5" YKK buckle while the Bulldog 32 is a belt with a 32mm/1.25" YKK buckle. Pros: The belt is metal-free - less hassle at airports and security checks. Quiet - new buckle The new buckle makes a "creaking" noise when the belt is put on and taken off. The noise disappears after a while. Scratch Free - Nylon buckle material reduces damage to your camera, binoculars or essential gear. like a trouser belt. It's a bit annoying when the Bulldog40 is worn under a toothed belt, but I find it a reasonable compromise substitute for the "noisy, clothes-damaging" Velcro pants belt. Good Construction Material - Well constructed YKK buckle (Black buckle only). Nylon webbing is Mil-Spec (or military specification). The Bulldog32 buckle replaces any 1.25" pant/hiking/money belt. Bad side: 40mm brown/khaki buckle. Some Bulldog40 belts may come with tan/khaki buckles. Those tan YKK buckles appear to be of lower quality and less durable. Bad buckles loosen the nylon webbing when you put on the belt; makes the whole exercise pointless. I would "throw back the brown 40mm bucklesββ¦ Overall I would rate this Thomas Bates Bulldog40 belt a 4.25. Bulldog32 will score 4.75, and 5.0 has never been awarded (with the possible exception of Aerosmith songs). Be sure.
