The Contacts for the tip and ring are very thin metal, but that's not the point, with a barrel contact you'll need to solder the shield or wire directly to the connector body, except that the cover on the body will prevent you from soldering--holding onto it. tinning it just resulted in the formation of solder balls which fell off once it cooled.I've been soldering cables for over 20 years and have never seen anything like this.These connectors are completely useless.
