Not covered with glass. Bare lightbulb.
I'm sure there are consumers who will say they have been using this type of lamp for years, which should reassure many people. I'm just nervous I guess. I bought it because it looked the same as the one that blew. It turns out there is a big difference. There is no protective glass on the bulb itself. Shipping for returning items will be more expensive than actual price. Luckily I only bought 2. This review is mainly for people looking for glass coated halogen bulbs. I haven't used them so I can't comment on durability or brightness, but the price is reasonable.
