Review on Vintage-Style Rotary Dial Telephone - XICHEN Resin Imitation Copper, Ideal for Home and Office, Retro Old-Fashioned Design by Danielle Bates

Looks nice but useless

The device looks nice. It's actually a nice combination of metal and plastic, which gives it some 'weight' and doesn't give it the cheap, lightweight feel found in many plastic items these days. My device looked exactly like the picture and it took about 3 minutes to assemble and connect. The rotary switch that would still work on the POTS line if it were actually a real one doesn't work. The dial actually generates a DTMF code when you let go of the dial and it starts rotating back to its original position. So you get the "feel" of an old rotary phone, but what you actually hear are the DTMF codes being generated when dialing. I could live with that. What I couldn't get over, however, was the annoying loud HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM when I picked up the phone. The buzzing was so loud I could barely hear the beep. So I had to send my device back. I guess I need to stick with my modern cheap plastic cordless phone and not relive my childhood with a retro dial-up phone :( I wouldn't recommend you to buy this product (unless you have free returns on Revain Prime and you're willing to take a risk.) Quality control doesn't seem to be consistent.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
