The back of the shelf, the part you screw to the wall, measures 23 inches. The side rails of the shelf are 24 inches apart. Remember

Sizes are misleading. Outside bar to outside bar unit is 24 inches, but that's not the measurement I thought I was getting. The studs in my laundry room are 24 inches apart and the back of this shelf is 23 inches. I can't use this without an anchor or install a 1 x 12 piece of lumber across the wall. I'm sending this back. The first arrived looking like it had been run over by a van. Beautiful shelf with confusing dimensions.
