Heavy Duty Rectangular Banana Plugs for Speaker Wiring

Often the rear of a speaker or amplifier is located near a wall and a right angle banana plug will take up no more space than it takes up behind the speaker or amplifier. They appear to be gold plated brass with two brass set screws in each connector to hold the end of the wire securely. They come with insulating grommets that press on the part where the cable is connected to avoid shorting the signals. The grommets are colored red and black as shown in the picture to indicate polarity. The insulating tube looks like a somewhat elastic PVC tube. If you use a large wire, especially if you tin the ends with solder, the heads of the setscrews will stick out a bit and it's not easy to move the grommet up. On the other hand, they should not slip. If you are unable to fit the sleeves onto the screw heads, you may need to use color matching tape or heat shrink tubing. I used 14 gauge acoustic wire with the ends filled with solder and managed with some difficulty to attach insulating sleeves to the ends. These bananas fit snugly into a typical terminal pin end. This makes for a good connection, but you have to make an effort to get it in. Luckily the set screws are already threaded into the fitting, you just need to unscrew them far enough to insert the wire. I bought some straight bananas that came with all the set screws in a little pouch. What a pain it was with multiple pillar connections and fat fingers. But they don't have that problem. The quality seems excellent for these rectangular bananas and they are designed to take larger wires and connect very well with the typical center mounting hole.
