I found that the steam condenses on the lid and flows into the water. Steam condensate touched a piece of plastic and flowed into the main chamber. I understand the flip cover design calls for plastic. If metal covered the entire opening of the cooking chamber, condensation wouldn't be an issue, even if the top of the lid is plastic. To be fair, the controls worked well. Convenient cable storage at the base. The stainless steel outer shell is very good. I cleaned several times with vinegar, dish soap and boiled water; The plastic smell hasn't gone away. In the end I sent it back.
