AFTER 3 YEARS OF FAULTY ADAPTER I'M RENTING

Admittedly, when it first came out it sounded like an incredible concept. Within six months I bought three sets and then bought many different adapters. By the way, I was very annoyed by the lack of an iPod adapter (IPDA-0001) in the kit, as others have written here. None of them have been used in a mobile environment; mine is on my desk, my wife is on her desk at work and my stepdaughter is on her desk in college where they are not stressed or abused. Then the adapters started to fail. The first two iPod adapters broke along the plastic casing and died. The third adapter for the iPod just died, period. And therein lies the story of the next two and a half years, failure after failure: two universal USB adapters (CHUA-0011), one mini-USB (MUSB-0001), one Plantronics (PLNA-00001), and two more. What is the problem? I am convinced that this is a bad and inferior production. Most of these adapters come out of the box with two ends out of sync, forcing the user to twist them so that the charging hub and the device being charged are together. No matter how little force you use, it's still too much for the obviously weak wire connections in the connector housings. When I replaced them, I also noticed different cable lengths between the two connectors, particularly on the iPod box (they have now changed the casing of this adapter as well, apparently due to the split shell issue mentioned above). This is another sign that the manufacturer is not following the specification, or the callpod has switched vendors, or both. Remember it was all just for easy desktop use never unplug adapters. I can't imagine the failure rate if someone were to use this system in a mobile application where the adapters would be subjected to constant connect/disconnect cycles from the hub. The pins on the Herkin power pack don't fold into the case, and surprisingly, neither do the pins on the optional 'portable' power pack, making both pretty much useless when you're on the go unless you want to damage the items inside. your case or the case itself. I'm tired of returning and exchanging these adapters. I'll sell all three chargers and go with outlets and a couple of chargers. I strongly recommend avoiding this product. It was a great concept, but it's absolutely annoying to own. September 2010 Update: iPod Adapter #4 RIP Oh my god I really hate this thing.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
