I cut some potatoes and made french fries - about 6 - 8 minutes. Everything works good so far. I read some negative reviews about leaking and such. I put some water in it first and drained . to see how it all works. Then I dried it well, added oil, and all is well.Watch my video. They may not advise it, but if you take some precautions, you can use this without the bottom container in place. One reviewer said the lid warped. I'm not sure, but I think maybe mine did, too. Maybe it was that way new. It is slightly warped - only slightly. But the lid is not entirely water tight anyway. The top where the oil drains into it is open all the time. So, don't think you can simply take the oil from the fryer to the refrigerator without some care. The lid helps prevent sloshing, but it's not completely tight. This is the first time I've ever had a deep fryer that didn't splatter onto the stove or counter. It's the best one I've ever used.
