As a carpenter with over 40 years of experience I can say that these dowels are quality products for any project that requires dowels with large holes. . I ordered them to plug the large mounting holes in the oak plank. The holes were made by an old overhead light that was longer than my new one. These plugs are real oak, chip free and the measurements given are accurate. Make sure the mounting hole is 1" since the top of the connector only sticks out about 1/8". The plates are already sanded and painted without any problems. Simply apply a small bead of wood glue around the bottom perimeter, place in the bilge and wipe away any excess glue with a damp cloth or paper towel. Wipe it off, as exposed glue will not pick up the stain. Yes, I could probably make my own butts. However, given the price and quality of these items, it wouldn't be worth the time.
