Review on Racor PLB-2R Garage Wall Mount Bike Rack Stand by Alycia Sackville

Works great could use a tune or two

I actually ordered two of these bikes as I need to store four bikes. When I installed them in my garage, I think it took me 30 minutes to put both together (including pulling them out of the shipping box into the garage and unpacking the components). I screwed one into the studs of one of the garage walls and then inserted a 2x2 piece of wood between the two studs to give the other an attachment point. One benefit of not finishing the outside wall of my garage is that the cutout gave me a few inches of extra room for the steering wheel and pedals. Pros: very easy assembly, intuitive setup. It consists of eight parts, four of which are bike racks. If you look at the packaging, it is quickly assembled - easy to change if necessary. The stand is very light, making it easy to adjust the final placement. Enough space for both bikes. You have enough headroom to mount both bikes (I recommend mounting the top one first to estimate how much space you need below) and take them off without getting in each other's way. Cons: VERY shaky - especially vertically. The connections between the four vertical pieces have a friction fit. Something like. They slide together very easily but have a lot of play. The vertical leg of the stand wobbles - MUST be fixed to the wall. Since the stand is so wobbly, I would NOT feel comfortable just letting it stand free. Especially considering how easily the legs slide across the floor (I installed this in a raw concrete garage). Even with the cleats installed, I plan to drill a hole through the second vertical part from the top of the stem just for stability. The included screw is barely long enough for me to conveniently mount the stand to the wall. I'm not sure you could use this to attach a stand to a drywall post. (A pry bolt is included if you need to install a stud between studs of drywall.) To cover the ends and hide the screw tips, the packaging was often loosened. This is a minor complaint, but the few plugs used to cover the ends of the U-piece on the underside of the stand, or to cover the screws that hold the support brackets to the brackets, spun freely in the packaging and became loose along the way positioned assembly - It would be nice to order shorter support brackets. The levers keep the bikes a reasonable distance from the stem, which I think should ensure your bike's handlebars or pedals don't dig into the wall. But an option with brackets about 3 inches shorter would be good for installing in a room where the walls don't have drywall. This product really opened up the floor in my garage and I'm glad I ordered it. I wish it was built a little better and built in a bit of flexibility.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Crumpled
