Review on Women'S Round Toe Pull Up Over The Knee Calf Cowboy Thigh High Boots With Ankle Zipper By DailyShoes by Cody Mckechnie

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sizing guide recommends US Size 10 but boots were way too big :(

Summary - I'm in between sizes and I erred on the side of sizing up after consulting the seller's size-guide and reading reviews, but failed epically. It's hard to tell how comfortable they'd be if they fit right, but overall they seem like a pretty good quality boot so 4 stars (with deductions for lack of traction on out-sole, lack of any cushioning on the insole, and lack of sole flexibility). Also, the sizing guide from the seller is mostly useless, but that didn't affect my rating. Just make sure to read the reviews. The shoes were shipped in their shoe box and packed nicely. The shoe box was shipped in an Revain bag, so the outside of the shoebox was a little banged up.--Sizing - I'll leave this at the top because it's ultimately why I have to return the shoes and I wish the seller had given a more-detailed sizing chart. I usually wear shoes either in US size 9 or 9.5, but have been known to need a 10 on rare occasion. My right foot/leg is the larger of the two so I've included photos with measurements in case that helps anyone.According to sizing chart, a size 9 would likely be small and uncomfortable with the foot length being almost half an inch too short, and since they don't sell half sizes (at least for larger sizes), I decided to try a size 10. Alas, these boots were just way, way too big.The top of the shoe box was so big I could pinch the excess and they actually bulged out a bit, making the top of my feet look wider than they are. The calf opening was baggy as well (great for those needing wide calf boots) . and even with socks and loose pants tucked in, the calves of the boots were trying to collapse down around my ankle into the shoe box, creating painful pressure points all around my ankles.I didn't do anything special when pulling on the boots, so the jeans bunched somewhere along the calf and there was plenty of room to accommodate the extra material (and in case there's a question whether the jeans may have caused my discomfort, I also put the boots on without my pant legs tucked in and I still had issues with the bootlegs bunching around my ankles). I think these would look great with skinny jeans, but I was too lazy to change my pants when trying them on.For the taller people out there looking for *actual* knee high/over the knee boots - the shaft length was plenty tall (almost too long in the back for me, and I'm 5'9" - when I sit it bunches a little behind my knee), and the front of the boot extended maybe a half inch or an inch past my knees when sitting. So, you're not going to get them going way up the thigh or anything, but they definitely covered my knee. The calf curve that's cut into the shape of the boot seemed to line up pretty well with the shape of my calf as well, so that was nice. If you're shorter, or have shorter lowerlegs, these might be too tall to be comfortable when sitting, as they'll likely bunch in the crease of your leg. I imagine they scale the length based on shoe size, but given the lack of sizing guide/chart, it's hard to know for sure.Quality - The quality of the shoe seems pretty nice, and I'm really disappointed that the shoes just don't fit. The color in a lovely chocolatey brown, the stitching seems sturdy and looks neat/clean, the zippers zip smoothly, and the soles seem to be pretty solid, at least on first review. The boots were lined inside with a lightly cushioned padded material (not fuzzy). The soles don't have much flexibility (which is unfortunate at least in my opinion, as I prefer shoes with some bendiness to the soles). Some other reviews mentioned the soles of the boots were slick, and they definitely are. I only walked on textured tile floor and they were fine, but you might need to scuff up the bottoms for traction if you're walking on linoleum or a similarly slick surface, and they're definitely not snow/ice boots.Comfort - This is hard to determine as a whole since the shoes were just too big. As mentioned earlier, because the shoe was loose around my leg and the shoe box too large all around, the leg of the boot was collapsing down around my ankles, especially when sitting. But with a better fitting shoe, they may be less inclined to do that. The foot length was comically large compared to my foot. There was at least half an inch to an inch of extra space between my toes and the toe of the boot. The foot width seemed ok, which makes me worry that sizing down to a 9 could end up being too tight around my foot. So, they might run narrow in general, but it's hard to tell. For those looking for arch support - you'd need inserts. I don't have high arches or anything, but the insoles were flat and only thinly cushioned. I guess the need for inserts could affect what size shoe you'd need to get, but the shoe box does seem a bit taller, so maybe not?Verdict - I definitely have to return these boots, but haven't quite decided whether I want to order the smaller size since the other reviews indicate they run narrow/snug around the feet.Sadly, it seems that the boot hunt continues for me.(I'll update my review with feedback on the smaller size if I do decide to try them out).

Pros
  • For winter boots
Cons
  • These are not very comfortable boots. The sole is hard with no give.

They walk like a cowboy boot. Which is very good! The toe box runs really tight if you wear medium socks and an arch supported. You will need some type of arch support. Maybe thinner socks will work better, but I doubt it.Still kinda new. If they last through the winter I will by more in different colors.
