These brightly colored hair ties measure .75" in overall diameter before use. After twisting them into place a few times they don't go back to that size and remain stretched over an inch. It doesn't bother me though because the next time I use it I'll just take a look. This is a soft material that is gentle on the hair. I usually complete them with an extra bow in a matching or contrasting color. The ties do wear out a bit over time but I like them and there is a good range of colors in this range.
