My daughter uses it for pencils; I bought mine for travel with makeup brushes and long, barrel-shaped cosmetics like mascara and concealer. I was looking for a container that would allow me to unpack upon arrival and quickly form a basket. Perfect! I bought a black bag with a lime green zipper and was pleased to see that the lining was a solid, dark color. I plan to be careful with makeup on my brushes when I get home as slight residue of paint will likely ruin the lining fabric. Perhaps you are considering an impermeable or washable inner lining?
