I cook food and divide it into portions to make it easier to prepare and serve individual portions of something. Soups, desserts, first courses. A shovel fits in easily, two shovels just right. Things I've used this for: 1/2 cup of cucumber, 20 grapes, 1/2 large apple, 2 scoops of ice cream, 1 scoop of puree, 1/2 cup of rice, 1 serving of soup and wontons. As I'm in the process of renovating a house without proper kitchen supplies, the easy way to dispose of them after use is really handy right now. After the renovation I would switch to reusable bowls (better for the environment) but I would still use them as a last resort for parties.
