Not waterproof at all. actually not even waterproof. Maybe it's a little absorbent. We bought this as an alternative to our other mattress protectors (Carter's) and mattress protectors (for kids) - we would alternate them but because the kids pillow wasn't big enough to cover the mattress we overlapped. 2. After doing this for about 4 years and using the second child for 2 years we thought it might be better to just buy another protector and not use pads because it would be easier to put on a fitted sheet. We've been using them for about 4 months and I'm not sure they've ever been as waterproof as the Carter brands or baby pads. Today when changing the sheets it was wet, this "protector" got wet, the mattress got wet. Wouldn't recommend it.
