Home appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and refrigerator/ice makers are rated for operating pressures below 70psi. If the service water pressure is higher, a pressure reducing valve is needed to reduce the pressure of the water entering the home. After a while, dirt from the water and other factors will cause the valves to stop working properly, which often means the water pressure will rise above a safe limit. The result can be expensive repairs to household appliances. A pressure gauge is an inexpensive way to check water pressure.
