Review on Folding Hitch Bicycle Rack For 4 Bikes By Rage Powersports Elevate Outdoor by Doug Hinrichsen

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Very heavy, soft metal will fail, not up to the task.

Thing failed on me after 6 months due to poor construction quality, and it doesn't seem like they will do anything about it. Will update the review if that changes. See below for earlier review.Despite its heaviness, it is not really that strong and is made of very weak metal, particularly the vertical box tube. It failed on me after 6.5 months, while I had four bikes on it. The bottom weld where the vertical member is joined to the hitch adapter has a corner brace but the thing doesn't go high enough, so if your car bounces hard enough, the torque moment that your bikes are producing against the direction the car hitch is going WILL bend the vertical bottom box bracket out of shape, and therefore also bust the weld. They could have totally avoided this issue by (1) taking the weld and corner bracket go further up the vertical member, and (2) making the bottom box bracket out of higher strength metal. If you are not a very very careful driver, and actually plan to use all four bike points, look elsewhere! It does not require you to drive crazy nor carry heavy bikes to see this happen - as neither were the case here. My original concerns were apparently valid (see below). You get what you pay for when you outsource to China I guess.(original review follows):Pros:Sturdy. Comes with a few extra rubber straps. Nice features, decent price.Cons:The thing has a super-sloppy design at both the hitch connector (if you have the 1.25" hitch) and the folding bottom joint. But it can be solved - take the washer intended for the hitch side and slide it in the gap on the bottom folding joint, and tighten that joint down. Then take the "pinch bolt" to an auto store and get a fitting locking nut and lock washer to tighten it down from the other side. Then you can cinch it down properly.Unlike the name-brand hitches, this thing seems to be made out of the heaviest, cheapest metal they could find. I can honestly put a little weight on it and watch my car's trailer hitch twist under the weight and moment this thing puts on it. Makes me nervous about using it actually, with 4 bikes on it.Because it is so incredibly heavy, once you put 4 bicycles on this thing, if you were to use the fold-down lever - say to get access to your trunk - you will probably need someone to help you get the thing up again. Again, b/c it is so heavy.I think the design is great for a class 2, 3 or 4 hitch. But for the Class I hitch, it's too much especially if you use that 4th slot furthest from the hitch, it creates too much of a torque moment for a class I hitch.
