I bought one of these despite other people reviewing the quietness so I tested this unit as soon as it went on sale. Mine is pretty loud; definitely louder than the stock horn on my F150. It's not as loud as the 'professional' LE siren/horn you might find in a police car or fire engine, but then these units cost several times that and can also have 200W instead of 100W models. Anyway, this one was loud enough that the neighborhood kids started sniffing around trying to figure out where the loud noise was coming from and my daughter said it was loud enough in our family room in the basement (I tested the horn in the house). our detached garage which is about 50 feet from the house and the common room is in the basement on the other side of the house) to scare their pet cats. A normal car horn doesn't do that. I also suspect that the sound can be made louder by using a full size horn speaker instead of the compact speaker that comes with this unit. I don't think this device is intended to replace expensive professional equipment, so expecting performance at this level is unrealistic. If you want to sound like a real fire truck, spend the extra money buying expensive "professional" firefighting equipment. In my opinion this device works perfectly for the money.
