This is a really great tool for removing large amounts of material. I use it on a tree. The small spikes remain very sharp even after prolonged use. It tends to clog easily, so keep a brush handy to clean the material between the spikes. SIZE WARNING. I ordered 1" thinking the outside diameter was 1" but it's not. It appears that 1 inch is the diameter of the ball that the spikes are attached to. I think the correct term is root diameter; I would just like to know. If you measure the ball tip-to-tip, it's about 1.16 inches (hard to get high accuracy since all the pointed tips are there). So if you use one of these to enlarge a hole, make sure you give the actual outside diameter of that tool. The instrument itself is of excellent quality.
