I left them in the sun for an hour before use as recommended before putting them in two cat boxes (which hang behind plastic boxes in wooden cat houses) and two bathrooms (the door stays next to the toilets) . They were in place for about a week and it took several days for the difference to be noticed. But things didn't go so well after rain or on wet days. So I can't give a perfect rating for effectiveness, I still need unscented candles. I can't stand perfume so I was really hoping this would help more than it actually did. By the way, I didn't notice any dust reduction. It helps somewhat, but not enough to reduce odors. I used rope made just for the two hanging in the cat box, there wasn't enough rope for everyone so I had to access the filter bags in the cat box area more than the bathrooms. They make pretty good ropeless bathroom door stops. I like the look of the bags. I'll try moving some of them around to see if two would work better in a crate as one pocket may not be large enough to do the job alone in a crate.
