Works right out of the box.
Without programming. I took it out of the box, put in new batteries and it works. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's not as responsive as my original remote. You have to point it straight at the TV if you could change the channel from another room in my original. But I'm still happy with it because my dog grabbed it and thought it was his chew toy.
