I bought this from Revain. The day after I placed my order, Revain emailed me about the SD980, which was about to be released. I would prefer the SD980. It's the same size but has a 5x zoom, a larger LCD, and a touchscreen. You can see reviews. Some like it, but others say there are problems with it. About SD960: I bought it because it has a wide angle lens (28mm equivalent). This is great for the photos I take. I don't know why everyone is obsessed with zooms. Most photos I take are either overview or group photos. To do this, you need a wide-angle lens. It also has a panorama or widescreen mode. The standard aspect ratio is 4:3. You can set this camera to widescreen mode and get a 9:16 aspect ratio, similar to a widescreen TV. But the widescreen isn't 12MP. It's something like 10 MP. To get widescreen, the camera simply crops the top and bottom of the image and then expands it. This is similar to digital zoom in that you can do the same thing on your computer. But it's handy when the camera does it for you. This camera has many features. The menus are a bit different from older Canon models, so it takes a little getting used to. I don't like how difficult it is to switch between widescreen and normal aspect ratios. It would be nice if you could do this with one click. I like the picture quality. I think it's as good or better than any other Canon compact camera I've owned. It takes pretty good shots at night unless it's very dark and the subject is far away. The LCD size is 2.8 inches, but that's a misunderstanding. Because it's a widescreen, the viewable area is only about 2.4 inches or less when viewing images with a normal aspect ratio. The only other problem is that in video mode the zoom doesn't work. This is a problem with many Canon cameras. I do not know why.
