I used this 'extra' perm because I thought it wouldn't curl my hair as tightly as a 'regular' perm. I used orange sticks about an inch in diameter. How do I calculate the processing time correctly? From the moment you apply the perm solution to the first wrapped stick, or do you start counting AFTER all the sticks are soaked? Chemical reactions can be slow, so maybe it's no big deal? But some chemical reactions are fast. Thoroughly impregnating each stick takes at least 5 minutes, maybe longer, so when and how long to start the timer? I started the timer AFTER all the hair was soaked and only waited 11 minutes before rinsing and then neutralizing. But I left the neutralizer on for more than 5 minutes because I've read that it's the neutralizer that "fixes" the frizz. If you never neutralize, the perm will "fall out," meaning the hair won't frizz after you wash off the treatment solution. My hair became curly, like after a professional perm, which I also did. I'm glad I didn't leave it on for the full 20 minutes because leaving the chemical on for that long could have damaged my hair.
