This unit comes fully assembled. This is solid wood, not composite or chipboard. The wood and overall construction is minimalist and inviting, with a natural and light finish. The platter sits almost flush with the base of the unit and is almost invisible, so everything appears to sit squarely on the tabletop with little space underneath. The turntable is also made of 100% wood and has a smooth disc. It turns well, but not super-slick, "slippery" or loose. It requires little effort to rotate and the device tends to get caught on small obstacles or objects near the device. If you overload shelves or have more weight on one side than the other, the whole thing won't turn well, becoming unbalanced and heavy on the top. While this seems very practical and space-saving, it tends to take up more space than it offers for organization due to the rather odd arrangement of shelves and dividers. The top two slots and a round hole are too small for most things except some toothbrush handles. These odd insert sizes and slot configurations need to be modified to make them more versatile. I'm hesitating between three and four stars. Only four stars if you have the exact size, number and type of little things that work with this device without getting in the way.
