Sony has done a great job making this speaker more than just a dimmable wireless LED speaker. The glass tube plays an important role in the speaker's sound, combining form and function. Using the magic of physics, the glass tube makes the LED look like a flame with a wide base and a narrow tip, but you have to look at it from the right angle: if your gaze is too low, you won't see the flame. Generally, if your eye is too high, the "flame" will fill the tube and look more like a jet. Even with this trick with glass it still doesn't look like a flame, the style is clearly his own. At maximum brightness, the light is still quite subdued and only provides basic illumination. Glass isn't really glass, but it's just as fragile as glass - the included instructions say you can only handle the speaker by the base. It is best to keep the packaging material with you in case you need to send it for a move or for a return/RMA.
