Poor quality control

I recently bought a 20ft shipping container which I use as a small workshop and warehouse. It is located in a warehouse, so there is no electricity. I bought a solar panel, batteries and an inverter and installed the panel on the roof with a Renogy adjustable mount. I was very happy with the mount but figured I could benefit from an extra panel depending on usage. Unfortunately, I didn't plan it in my hurry. Since the angle of my container isn't due south, my attachment/plate placement couldn't be perpendicular to the container. Considering where I placed the plate/bracket, installing an additional plate next to the existing plate would result in overhangs. So the plan was to mount it vertically. Renogy didn't make a bracket that allowed vertical mounting, and Eco-Worthy and a few other vendors were the only ones who had a bracket large enough to allow me to stack two boards vertically. the same dimensions as the Renogy. This isn't bad per se, but it's smaller and thinner, so not as strong. This is not a violation of the terms of the deal, just an FYI. Because of this I had to do some roof modifications as the narrower "L" size meant they didn't quite fit my already installed bases and I didn't want to drill new holes in my roof. I then installed two panels on long L shaped rods and found that the panels were misaligned. Although the two "L" bars are drilled the same way, the holes on either end are not evenly spaced. Normally you should mirror these two bars (one to the left and one to the right), but this will offset your mounting holes by 1 inch. The only option was to point both bars in the same direction. I made it out of scrap. A little engineering work on their part would have resulted in a much better product at no extra cost. I'll add some photos when I'm back on the roof.

Pros
  • Good price
Cons
  • I don't really like anything, everything is fine
