Review on Enhance Your Wi-Fi Range with TP-Link N300 Range Extender (TL-WA850RE) by Mateusz Rybarczyk ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best thing I have ever used, highly recommended!

Negative assessments of the work of this repeater are explained solely by the illiteracy of users who cannot properly configure it in operation, and, admittedly, a manufacturer's flaw. And immediately hysteria, and immediately 1 point in the assessment. So, the buyer expects that by paying for this miracle panel and plugging it into the outlet, he will immediately receive an extension of the wifi network by 100 meters. Yes, what 100, 1000 meters around. Plugs into the socket and . nothing happens. Why? And here's why: 1. It is necessary to correctly orient the repeater in space, i. E. it must be plugged into a socket on the wall, not on the floor (see photo). 2. You need to choose the right distance from the repeater to the main router. Too close is bad, because no need to pick up the signal in the zone of excellent reception. Too far is also bad, because. the connection between the repeater and the router will be lost. 3. It is necessary to correctly take into account the propagation of the signal, i. E. the number of walls in the path of the wifi signal. If you have 5 reinforced concrete walls, then no repeater will help. 4. You need to set it up correctly, i. E. share a network with the same name and the same password. You need to do this manually either through the WEB interface or through the Tether application. All. Turn on your head, set it up and forget it. Then everything works like clockwork. +10 dB you will get to the signal (tested many times, see photo). Mio_Ext - signal from the repeater, Mio - from the router. From the repeater to the measuring point 10 meters, 4 brick walls 250 mm thick.

Pros
  • 1. Signal amplification up to 10 dB 2. Easy setup via Tether 3. Convenient indication 4. Little heat 5. This is not a whistle-blower, but a really working unit. With the right approach.
Cons
  • 1. When configured via WPS, it creates a network with an _Ext index, which does not make it clear to the user that the network has been shared. And reconfiguration of remote devices is required. Connect only via WEB-interface or Tether. WPS is strongly discouraged. 2. Requires some skill to set up 3. No directional antennas 4. Not friendly with Zyxel routers in terms of pairing via WPS (we read the forums). Only manual setting
