I just received this print server. I was a bit hesitant to buy it due to some negative reviews, especially assembly issues. I was pleasantly surprised when all I had to do was make sure my network connections were working properly beforehand. I connected the printer to the print server, turned on the print server, and then inserted the NetGear installation CD into my computer. The NetGear software recognized the print server, so the installation was almost error-free. The only problem I had was setting up printers and installing printer drivers. The NetGear installer failed here, but I blame it on Windows 2000/Windows 95 and printer driver distributions. What worked for me was *not* adding the printers to the print server installation process (this step still fails), but adding the printers and their drivers later (or sooner) since the local printers are attached to the parallel port and then remapping the printer ports to print to the appropriate server ports. Here is a more detailed procedure: - After connecting the printers one by one directly to the computer's parallel port and adding the printers as local, install the printer drivers. This allows Windows to detect new hardware and install the drivers correctly. - Reconnect the printers to the print server. - Open the printer properties via START->Settings->Printer in Windows and assign the printer port to the corresponding port on the printer. Server. Windows should set the port as PS110/. see where . is one of two print server ports. For now I am very happy with this purchase.
