The key to doing it correctly is not to drip oil on the gasket for at least 24 hours. First I drained the oil, removed the oil pan, waited about 5 days to drain all the oil from the engine, when I was sure there was no oil left I proceeded to apply the gasket bead and sealant. gasket, then I tightened the bolts by about 30%, waited a day and then tightened all the bolts to my auto manufacturers recommended torque.
