I have a 2003 Avalanche V8 5.3L, truck odometer says 110,000 miles, it's time to change spark plugs and wires. The cables may be fine, but I've already put 110,000 miles on these cables with no problems and want another 110,000. So I removed those old cables. The Chevy dealer wants to charge $250 just to change the spark plugs and another $150 to change the wires. Pepboys charges $169.99 to replace the spark plugs. Both items are available from Revain, they cost about 1/3 of what the retailer is asking for. The cables are made in the USA by Delphi, a GM parts supplier, and fit perfectly. As a reminder, reinstall the heat shields the way they were before you removed them. GM engineers must have fitted them for some reason and I'm sure I wouldn't want to find out the hard way without reusing these shields. Protective devices are installed on the anthers of the spark plugs. Also, some dielectric grease will be needed if you decide to remove these wires in the future. Replacing wires and spark plugs took 90 minutes. This is a great buy if you have the time and are willing to spend it. If you do it yourself, you'll save some money and learn something new at the same moment. By paying someone else to fix/change whatever you need, you haven't learned anything!
