These pads are thin and cannot be machine washed. They have not been used extensively, they lined my 2 guinea pig cage in 4 days. The wicker material on the bottom came apart after the first wash (warm, not hot). Two of the three pads started cracking BEFORE they went into the washing machine! (I turned down the third because I didn't like brown). The upper is cute and the fleece is still intact. So I can reiterate, but note that fleece itself is NOT absorbent. If you're using a basic fleece liner, you'll need something absorbent underneath (towels, an old blanket, fresh linens, newspaper in a pinch). , a durable chenille bathmat is a very effective plaid liner.
