I compared this meat thermometer to my mercury thermometer that I use for color photography. I know that a mercury thermometer is very accurate. The meat thermometer gave the same reading as a mercury thermometer and only lasted 2 seconds. I also like the backlit display. I often stand in line at the bar in the evening and used to have to hold a flashlight to the thermometer to read it. Enough! I also like how it automatically turns on when you flip open the probe and turns off when you flip it back. This is a quality instrument and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good meat thermometer!
