OK, new sofa, I already had that wonderful piece of tape handy. It worked great on all my sofas. The photo above is a week after I had my sofa. I ran out of tape installing the sofa but felt like I had most areas covered. I thought my kittens were getting old and I didn't have to worry that much. Unfortunately my kitties found a few areas that I didn't miss and went into town as shown in the pictures in places where there is no duct tape. The areas with the tape are fully functional. Duct tape works amazing when placed in the right place. In kitties defense, this is a discount sofa with horrible fabric I see now (ordered online) but the price was right. I have found that protecting the underside of the sofa and the vertical armrests is enough to prevent scratches. They also have a scratching post right next to the sofa. I ended up trimming those unglued areas and they look like new again. Order more scotch! This is my favorite brand and style of tape. I've tried sheets (expensive), pre-cut strips, and a few other brands. It is easy to adjust according to the size of the sofa or chairs, small and compact, easy to put on and take off. There is a lot of tape in this roll. I have to replace it after 6-9 months as it doesn't get sticky anymore as cat hair and lint from my faux fur blankets stick to it, but it takes a little effort to protect my furniture. I resell my sofa every two years and then refurbish it as often as possible. So for me, keeping my couch intact has more to do with reselling than just myself. Highly recommended!
