Review on πŸ”ͺ Fiskars Eco Cutting Mat (01-005901): 24x36 Inch, Durable and Efficient for Precise Cuts by Amanda Castillo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

mostly excellent - one mistake

I've had one of these rugs for 13 years and it was finally ready to be replaced - it had a lot of lint sticking out in the cuts - especially from cutting fusible fleece. But 13 years is a great time. I had to search a lot to find this one - I didn't want a gray one with a black square. I'm not a quilter and just wanted a plain rug. I finally found out that to get what I wanted I had to search for Eco. Pros: The green is a lot softer than my old one and I really like it. It's green on both sides - another plus since the old one was yellow on the back. I LOVE the fact that the numbering is much bigger and darker and the 1/4 inch dots are darker and easier to read. Also new is that the numbers are repeated outside the frame, which is useful if you want to line up to the edge. Another plus is that it arrives flat - my older one came rolled up and took a while to unfold. This rug has NO odor as some others have reported. CONS: I have a small problem: the diagonal lines for cutting the diagonal stripes go from the bottom left to the top right - on the old carpet they went from the top left to the bottom right. I just need to retrain my old brain to the new layout. The main problem was that the label sticker was very difficult to remove. I would have expected a clean label, but that didn't happen. When I took it off, the top peeled off leaving a layer of glue in place. I was afraid to try WD40 or goo-gone because it would damage the board or not wash and oil the fabric. So I poked around at it for a long time and ended up having to use a razor blade to clean it. Even then there was a sticky residue that I eventually removed with vinegar. Overall I'm delighted with the new blanket - especially the improvements, but Fiskars needs to take a look at their label adhesive!
