Review on Lenovo 45W Round Tip AC Wall Adapter πŸ”Œ (GX20K11838), Black Charger, Lenovo 45W AC Wall Adapter (Round Tip) by Cornelius Reeves

The adapter gets very hot. Doesn't look authentic.

I ordered this as a replacement charger for my Lenovo Yoga 710-15IKB at the office. The charging pin fits my Yoga 710, but the adapter gets pretty hot, so much so that it's uncomfortable to use. I had it fully charged on my car before figuring out the heat issue. After realizing the heat issue, I tried charging it two more times, plugging it into two different outlets to make sure the outlet wasn't the problem. Both times had the same results - the adapter became too hot to use in just 10-15 minutes after plugging it in. Also, it didn't seem to charge fully when first used. The battery was fully charged, but about 15 minutes after disconnecting the machine from the charger, the battery percentage began to drop rapidly, and after about 80 minutes, the machine was almost empty. (This is a fairly new machine with a good battery, and that hasn't happened since I've used an OEM charger.) I may have gotten a lemon. However, I am concerned that the charger I received is not genuine despite the Lenovo logo engraved on the plastic adapter. The manufacturer's label itself is missing the Lenovo logo on the side of the adapter - a kind of big red flag. Also, the Velcro differs in quality and style from OEM chargers. it's wider and very long, to the point where I have to wrap it around the bundle of cord 6 or 7 times to tie it. It's made of a harder plastic, on one side everything is fuzzy, on the other side there are plastic velcro straps. On my original Lenovo chargers, the velcro is narrower, long enough to wrap around the wire harness 3 times, it's made of much more flexible plastic (almost like nylon tape), and one side is fuzzy throughout, the other side is mostly smooth, except for the last half inch or so at the end where the velcro material is. Coupled with the lack of a logo on the manufacturer's label, the significant difference in the quality of the Velcro AND the lack of any Lenovo documentation or warranty information in the box, and the way the box was sealed with a clear sticker instead of Lenovo's protective tape my suspicion. It is fake and not original. Unfortunately I threw away the packaging for this charger before realizing the heat issue so I cannot return it. After encountering an overheating issue, I ordered another genuine charger directly from Lenovo. It was more than double the price but worth the reassurance of getting a real charger. If you buy from this seller (the charger I received from Laptop Power, LLC) I suggest you check the label on the adapter very carefully upon delivery to make sure it looks genuine, and it does keep an eye on when loading. to make sure it doesn't overheat.
