Anyone complaining that it doesn't do the job of an air conditioner should buy an air conditioner! It doesn't require a vent or the expense of an air conditioner, so no, it won't cool your entire house. I live in the high desert and if I keep the windows and blinds closed during the day, keep this thing clean, and keep feeding it ice cubes and fresh water, it will do what I need and I think it's worth buying. . A remote control is needed and all settings are good. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because the little gauge that shows the amount of water in the tank is rubbish. I thought so when I first filled it but the CRAZY cheap mechanism worked so I gave up. However, the first time I took out the filters and cleaned the inside of the water tank, I reassembled it and killed almost everything by working from scratch. Life is busy. I didn't realize it had been a long time since I'd filled the tank. But a cheap plastic water level indicator says it's full! Now I have to shine a flashlight into the aquarium to keep an eye on the water level.
