Runs Big and soles are not cushiony

So I wear Birks all the time and wanted a pair of slippers. I thought these would be similar enough but there's so much to say against. The toe area is huge. Sloppy huge. I can tighten the buckle to make them hang on to my feet but these definitely run larger. They come in a plastic bag not a box and they are pretty mashed. The purple is pretty and the lining is nice but not super cushiony. Good arch support though.

I''m usually a 7 or 7.5 in womens. I ordered 7.5 and they are pretty big. I could have gotten away with a size 6.5
