I was concerned the shoes wouldn't be too tight based on some reviews. I usually wear a size 7.5 medium and they fit comfortably. I wore them for the first time kayaking and hiking over the weekend. In the previous sandals I had, when I had to walk/crawl over rocks near the shore to get the kayak out of the water, my feet slipped into the sandal bed and twisted my ankles at times. However, these sandals are slightly molded and did a good job of keeping my feet in a stable position. The insole wraps around my legs on the sides and the straps are snug enough to keep my feet in place. I also liked that my toes were protected, especially since it's difficult to see the rocks kicking up the mud when crossing the water. If you are trying to decide between buying the Newport H2 and the Whisper sandal, I called Keen customer service to find out the difference between the Newport H2 and the Whisper sandals. I was told that the Newport H2 has a more supportive arch.
