I have been involved in video surveillance for many years. For my own system I bought a Siamese RG59 direct from Sewell. This is very good for a 5 year old. Then 2 weeks ago one of my cameras stopped transmitting video. After careful troubleshooting, I found that the cable itself had lost its conductivity beyond 165 feet. When using the received devices, the cable was not "hidden". After the cable was removed from its route, the cable jacket was severed and the conductor severed to determine the cause. There was a powdery substance on the braided part of the cable, similar to oxidation. Since there were no physical changes such as vandalism or accidental disconnection during the installation of the cable, I concluded that the oxidized substance caused a malfunction that opened the circuit that prevented video transmission.
