Nice reviewer Best in tools and equipment yet

I have 3 cars for my family, my farm tractor, my RV and 3 more cars for my elderly parents. There are 9 batteries in total because my diesel truck has two. I deal with batteries all the time, keep them in repair and do my best to make sure an elderly parent (or myself) isn't stuck somewhere with a dead battery. So I was happy to get this battery tester hoping to make a good battery test part of my maintenance routine. I like the idea of a coal heap load tester as they put a real resistive load on the battery. But they get very hot (smoke) during the test, heavy, and you need a big enough (500A) one to drain the car battery enough. Don't even waste your time with a small 100A in my opinion as that really isn't a huge drain on a 900CCA battery. That's how I came up with these electronics that use the engine start as a stress test. I really like the ability to print out the results so I can quickly review them, print them out and attach them to my maintenance log. The tester comes with 2 spare rolls of paper in a soft sleeve which you can see wrapped in gold foil in one of the pictures. The case is decent and works perfectly. I don't have bad batteries at the moment so I can't say this thing got them hooked. I have attached photos of use on two different vehicles. The off-vehicle test is just a battery test and both tests went well. I also did a car test on both of them. From the images it can be seen that one of the batteries had to be charged to continue the 'in vehicle' test where after the battery test is complete the test of the starting and charging system will proceed. Given that I did service on this engine and left the key in the run position for over an hour, this is no surprise. On the other I was able to do a whole series of tests that you can see in the photos. It is powered by the tested battery. So if you have a really dead battery, you probably need to charge it before you can test it. You will definitely have to charge for a stress test (walking test) which you can see in the photos as required so there's no guesswork. I don't know the minimum voltage required to run the tool. I have a few complaints. The instructions are pretty bad for a car test. It basically says select this to run this test. But after it completes the initial battery test it just says "Enter to print" and the instructions don't help at all. I wasn't ready to print, I wanted to do boot and load system tests, so I hit the back button, which took me back to the main screen and forced me to start over. Turns out you press enter and it doesn't *print*... another option pops up: continue or print. Just select Next. Another problem is that the cables are too short. This makes the "in the car" test a job for 2 people. You can see one of the images where it asks you to rev up to 2500 to check the charging system. You had to make the cables long enough to sit in the driver's seat and hold the tester in your hand. It's very light and doesn't give you the assurance that it's a solid tool that will stand up to a toss in a toolbox. It's going well so far, but I don't want to stop. I take care of my tools so I don't see this as a problem for myself, but if you're a big tool lover you might want to consider it. Overall I'm happy with it. Once I've done some testing on other vehicles I'll update this review if I come up with anything worth sharing here.
