As a big fan of the contact grill I wore out my George Foreman grill after a few years of use, was looking for a major upgrade and found this grill. At first I was concerned about the high price but after reading the reviews and looking at the photos I decided this is clearly a quality device that will last a long time and is worth the investment. When the grill arrived I wasn't disappointed - the build quality of this thing is close to commercial quality; everything from watch faces to finishes to the heavy-duty outlet. If I were another household appliance in the kitchen and had to sit next to this one, I would be very scared. The Breville Smart Grill not only looks good, it cooks just as consistently and quickly as every review states: chicken breasts in 5 minutes, whole thick bone-in steaks in 10 minutes, veggies, grill lines and everything, the list goes on and on . A week later I fell in love with this machine - I ate practically nothing that wasn't electrically preheated by my plush smart grill. After our first honeymoon and a good 4 months of home grilling, the Breville Smart Grill broke my heart. When we started cooking together nothing stuck, I mean nothing on its surface. I grilled something, wiped it down and enjoyed the chicken/beef/vegetables, but after a while I had to start peeling the food off the surface - in short, it started sticking. I was like well nobody is perfect I still love them but then the fries started. Her beautiful diamond shaped non-stick surface has started to peel - she was a smooth customer when we first met but with only 4 months of love, albeit frequent use, her surface has become rough. The scrambling for food quickly turned into a vicious struggle to snatch my food out of her stranglehold without burning my hands; a few times she almost hurt me and all i wanted was my dinner. We broke up, I started eating out, I couldn't even look at her going into the kitchen. I even unplugged it for a while. The last straw was that it literally started falling apart on me. After recovering from our last couple of fights I plugged them back in and tried to start over and then things got really bad. Not only would she not let go of my food, but now, as I lifted her delicate steel handle, she gripped my chicken thighs so tightly that she ripped off the bottom plate. That's when I realized it was all over. She doesn't cook for me anymore, she just sits on my kitchen counter scaring my toaster. Every now and then when I walk into the kitchen I see her and think of the good times like when she grilled all those steaks for me and my friends at the soccer game or when she helped me impress that girl (she didn't mind meeting women as long as they don't try to cook for me) with great grilled salmon. That's what I do now, I'm just trying to remember when things were good between us and I'm trying not to think about how bad things got - it's better this way. It just wasn't meant to be.
